MINI Cabrio

The 21st Century Mini has successfully made the transition from hatch to convertible. More than two years after BMW’s new generation Mini hatch emerged, the Mini Cabrio range has been launched in Australia, comprising the same base Cooper and supercharged Cooper S variants for a surprisingly small surcharge over their fixed-roof siblings. Also surprising is how close the cute new cabrio comes to its hatch donor car in terms of rigidity, handling and performance. But whether the new-age, retro-themed Mini Cabrio can keep buyers interested any longer than the hatch remains the key question here.

A Modern Classic:
Not only does the MINI Cabrio continue to turn heads in the street – it also ensures the original design-to-space concept of the Mini lives on.

Long, Wide, and Low:
The compact, bulldog stance with the ingenious “wheel at each corner” concept not only creates space on the inside and saves space on the outside, it is also one factor behind the MINI typical go-kart feeling.

Chrome Door Handles:
Shining examples as a standard feature on all MINI models, Chrome is also used as standard on front headlamp bezels, grille surrounds, waist finishers and rear lamp cluster surrounds.

Rear Light Design:
The unmistakable “island-like” rear lights (i.e. completely surrounded by sheet metal) on all MINI models, with clear glass optic and chrome bezels, also contain the brake lights, reverse lights and direction indicators.

Soft Top Contours:
Flat roofline and upright rear windscreen for optimum occupant comfort. Fully automatic. Soft top for MINI Cooper S Cabrio/MINI Cooper Cabrio in black, blue or green; MINI One Cabrio soft top available in black only.

“Mini Face”
The wide “mouth” with long horizontal grille slats and elliptical headlamp “eyes” of all MINI models will put a smile on your face as well.

Finished with top-quality materials and the most refined surfaces, the interior of the new MINI Cabrio comes in three different colors: Blue, Beige, and Black. The dashboard and parts of the door linings are available in Silver, Anthracite, and with wood and aluminium-style trim.

Moving on to the seat upholstery, a choice of 3 different cloth covers, 3 combinations of cloth and leather, as well as three leather options in various colour combinations offer a broad margin for individual wishes and preferences.

Like the exterior, the interior is also available as an option with an attractive Chrome Package, trim in high-gloss chrome comprising features such as the rev counter surrounds, the surrounds on the central instruments and the cupholders accentuating the classic character of the car.

The Cockpit Chrono Package also available as an option emphasizes the sporting and elegant ambience within the MINI Convertible: In this case the central instrument features two circular dials presenting the level of fuel in the tank, oil and coolant temperature, as well as oil pressure. The speedometer is moved next to the rev counter on the steering column, the particular feeling of sports motoring being further accentuated in this case by the optional three-spoke leather sports steering wheel.

You can fit more than you might think into every MINI Cabrio – including four adults!

When the soft top is open, the MINI Cabrio offers 120 litres of luggage space.

When the soft top is closed and the 50:50 split folding rear seats are upright, 165 litres are available. This increases to 605 litres when both rear seats are folded down.

Sure To Have Fun:
The MINI Cabrio has a wealth of safety features - including a reinforced body structure, extra-strength roll-over bars with built-in 3-point safety belts, traction control ASC+T (standard on MINI Cooper S Cabrio) for improved acceleration grip, electronic stabilising (DSC)and standard-feature front airbags and head-thorax side airbags. So you can concentrate on driving and let your car look after itself – and its occupants.

Safety is addressed via Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), as well as a strengthened bodyshell that incorporates strong reinforcement tubes inserted into the A pillars and dual roll-over hoops with integrated headrests behind the two rear seats.

Four airbags, two front-mounted and two fitted into the outer edges of the front seats and an intelligent crash sensor provide high-levels of passive safety in the event of an impact.

Electric windows, dual reading lights and ambient lighting in the door handles are all standard. As an added convenience feature, all Australian-spec Mini Cabrios will be fitted with Park Distance Control.

The Mini Cabrio is able to carry a maximum of 400kg, and the luggage compartment accommodates 165-litres with the roof closed. And even with the roof down, luggage compartment capacity remains a substantial 120-litres.
