The enhanced design elements and powertrains incorporated on the 2011 BMW X5 are the result of over 4,000 new parts being integrated in the vehicle. Selective design modifications to the front and rear of the vehicle clearly express enhanced sporting characteristics. All versions of the new BMW X5 are also equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard, offering optimised effectiveness and the highest degree of comfort. Two new engine variants have also been introduced to the BMW X5’s portfolio; the BMW X5 xDrive50i and the X5 xDrive35i.

Heading towards the sunset or illuminated by city lights: the BMW X5 instinctively draws gazes wherever it goes. Its long wheelbase, short overhangs and powerful contours express its elegantly sporting nature.

Prominent lines and sculpted edges are testament to the BMW X5’s unmistakable presence and elegance. The front apron is almost entirely in body colour, and the dominant air vents and elegant matt-silver finished mouldings direct the viewer’s attention to its wide stance on the road. The muscular, sculpted bonnet is a clear indication of the power that lies beneath while the dynamically contoured sides and L-shape rear lights with LED technology underscore the vehicle’s elegance. The front and rear matt-aluminium finished scuff guards and the newly designed exhaust pipes complete the athletic and powerful appearance of the BMW X5’s exterior. Whether captured under city lights or beams of sunlight, the design of sporting intent has never been so intensive.

BMW iDrive is intuitively operated using the centrally positioned controller and Control Display to give you fast and simple access to all of the comfort and entertainment functions.

The optional and innovative Head-Up Display shows relevant information, for example current speed, directly in the driver’s field of vision. The height and brightness of the display can be individually adjusted, so that the driver can fully concentrate on the traffic at all times.

Safety is priority number one and it isn’t just active measures that are of vital importance, passive safety measures play a crucial role in securing on-board safety.

In an impact situation, the BMW X5 bodyshell proves to be unyielding. Special reinforcements in the front, rear and sides of the body protect the driver and passengers effectively. The highly rigid bodyshell also serves to ensure the BMW X5 handles with razor-sharp precision and breathtaking agility.

Whichever of the two engines you opt for, the result is maximum driving pleasure combined with outstanding efficiency. The xDrive50i with V8 engine impresses with its power and sophistication while the xDrive35i with straight six-cylinder engine lets its efficiency speak for itself.

The top-of-the-range V8 engine with two parallel turbochargers delivers maximum torque of 600 Nm that remains constant over a wide rev range, from 1,750 to 4,500 rpm. The engine produces 300 kW (407 hp) to achieve impressive acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds. And thanks to High Precision Injection (HPI), maximum efficiency is extracted due to precisely-measured doses of fuel being injected into the combustion chamber.

The straight six-cylinder petrol engine combines a Twin Scroll turbocharger with Valvetronic and direct petrol injection. This intelligent innovation package notably reduces CO2 emissions while at the same time significantly improving performance: 225 kW (306 hp), maximum torque of 400 Nm and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds.
