The new BMW 1 Series Convertible combines sporting elegance of its design with the superior agility of the only compact car with rear wheel drive. Five high performance and efficient petrol and diesel engines are available to choose from at market entry level. New yardsticks for sporty driving pleasure are set above all by the top of the range model BMW 135i Convertible, which is powered by a 225 kW/306hp, 3.0 litre straight six cylinder engine with Twin Turbo and petrol direct injection and can be recognised by its subtly modified, standard M Aerodynamics Package. The engine range is comple-mented by a further six cylinder in the BMW 125i Convertible, which produces 160 kW/218 hp, two newly developed four cylinder engines with petrol direct injection and a performance of 125 kW/170 hp in the BMW 120i Convertible and 105 kW/143 PS in the BMW 118i Convertible as well as from a new generation four cylinder diesel with 130 kW/177 hp for the BMW 120d Convertible.

Feel the wind at the touch of a button: the electronic softtop opens and closes in just 22 seconds, even while the car is moving at speeds of up to 40 km/h. When closed, the reinforced, integrated rear window helps to better block out noise. With a weight of 1,260 g/sqm, the strong roof material ensures improved noise insulation and offers the same comparable level of winter comfort as a permanent roof. The softtop is also available in anthracite with silver effect lending it a unique sparkling finish.

The optional navigation systems of the BMW 1 Series Coupé are operated using the iDrive system for easy use. The intuitive iDrive system is used to control a range of other functions, such as cabin climate control, entertainment options and communication. The Control Display, optimally situated above the central console, informs and guides you with ease, providing immediate access to the most important functions. Sudden stops - emergency braking - are not a regular element of everyday driving. But it’s precisely at these moments that the fast reactions of drivers behind are most important. Brake Force Display is a dual-stage brake light system. For normal braking, the main light element is illuminated; for harder, sudden braking, the entire brake light glows red. Drivers behind intuitively understand and can react accordingly. When the optional xenon lights are fitted, the rear lights also feature distinctive LED technology.

Increased performance at reduced levels of fuel consumption is now a reality thanks to BMW’s groundbreaking technology. The BMW 118i has an aluminium four-cylinder engine which provides 10 kW (14 hp) more than its predecessor, yet uses 1.4 l/100 km less fuel. The BMW 120i manages to offer 15 kW (20 hp) more than its predecessor while providing unrivalled fuel consumption levels at 6.6 l/100 km.
