1 Series
Aenean tincidunt. Nulla rutrum mollis enim
The BMW 1 Series Coupé stands for emotion, adrenaline and intensity. Concentrated dynamics spring to life when the muscular engines release their power. The choice between the straight six-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW 125i and BMW 135i, the four-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW 120i or the four-cylinder diesel engine in the BMW 118d, BMW 120d and BMW 123d is yours.
Elegance manifests itself beneath the elegant coupé roofline through the perfectly proportioned wide-brimmed shoulder and muscular front. And when it comes to well-thought-out driving, the BMW 1 Series Coupé continues to go that one step further with its range of intelligent features: iDrive provides a user-friendly operating concept that enables the safe and relaxing handling of a wide range of functions while BMW EfficientDynamics makes it unmistakably clear that lower fuel consumption and emission levels do not impair intensity, they strengthen it.
A long bonnet, a set-back trapezoidal greenhouse and short overhangs: the BMW 1 Series Coupé looks quick, even when stationary. The clearly defined shoulder line and long wheelbase confidently highlight its perfect proportions from its muscular front to its powerful and wide rear. In line with legendary BMW 2002 tradition, the new BMW 1 Series Coupé provides the ideal measurements to deliver optimum driving dynamics.
As soon as you open the frameless door, you’ll be desperate to climb into one of the four perfectly sculpted seats. The optional sports steering wheel, short gear lever, circular instruments and high-quality materials are all as eye-catching as they are functional. Dynamic, horizontal contours create a formal link between the front and the rear - if you like sports-style driving, taking a seat in the BMW 1 Series Coupé feels like coming home.
Navigation systems with iDrive
The optional navigation systems in the BMW 1 Series Coupé are operated simply and effectively via the iDrive system. Via the Controller, this intuitive system is also used to operate a range of other functions such as cabin climate control and the entertainment and communication options, including CDs, the radio and the telephone. The four most frequently used controls, CD, radio, telephone and navigation system, can be operated using the direct selection buttons. The anti-glare, high-resolution display (8.8 inches) is optimally situated above the central console. And the three-dimensional map display and photo-realistic points of interest make the navigation system not only a helpful assistant but also a pleasure to use.
Brake Force Display on the BMW 1 Series Coupé.
Sudden stops - emergency braking - are not a regular element of everyday driving. But it’s precisely at these moments that the fast reactions of drivers behind are most important. Brake Force Display is a dual-stage brake light system. For normal braking, the main light element is illuminated; for harder, sudden braking, the entire brake light glows red. Drivers behind intuitively understand and can react accordingly. When the optional xenon lights are fitted, the rear lights also feature distinctive LED technology.
Passive safety system in the BMW 1 Series Coupé.
The safety electronics of the BMW 1 Series Coupé react to serious situations with amazing speed. Crash sensors react immediately, deploying the belt force tensioners and the airbag system comprising six airbags (driver and front passenger airbag, head airbags for front and rear and side airbags integrated in the front seat backrests) at the right time and to exactly the right degree.
Run-flat tyres on the BMW 1 Series Coupé.
Even after a complete loss of tyre pressure, run-flat tyres retain their shape and remain firmly attached to the rim. Even at higher speeds, the BMW 1 Series Coupé (except model 120d) remains stable and precisely controllable. The car can be driven for up to 150 km at 80 km/h following loss of tyre pressure - or even longer in the case of a slow puncture. The need for a spare tyre is eliminated.
The six-speed transmission
in the BMW 1 Series Coupé.
Smooth and responsive, the 6-speed manual transmission in BMW 1 Series Coupé models makes for dynamic driving at its best. Its standout features are the short-throw shifts, perfect ratios and optimum exploitation of torque. The optional 6-speed automatic transmission Steptronic*, which can be operated manually, delivers smooth driving with exceptional reaction speed combining instant power when pulling out and reduced fuel consumption at high speeds.
*Not available for the BMW 135i.

The seven-speed sports automatic transmission
with double clutch in the BMW 1 Series Coupé.
Increase driving pleasure in your BMW 1 Series Coupé 135i with the optional seven-speed sports automatic transmission with double clutch. This transmission changes gears with lightning speed and without any power gap. The double-clutch switches between the two separate drivetrains, one for the even gears and one for the odd gears. This means that if you accelerate in third gear for example, the fourth gear is already engaged. This produces extremely fast shift times with the resulting acceleration figures approaching sports car level.
The aluminium front axle
on the BMW 1 Series Coupé.
Vehicles with front-wheel drive tend to have more weight on the front axle than the rear and as a result are liable to suffer from understeer when cornering at speed. Handling becomes difficult and the car tends to slide towards the outside of the bend. For this reason, weight distribution in the BMW 1 Series Coupé has been almost perfectly balanced between both axles. This improves handling and is the main reason why it is able to hold its line even in the fastest of bends.
50:50 weight distribution
in the BMW 1 Series Coupé.
Rear-wheel drive and the intelligent use of modern lightweight materials ensure that the BMW 1 Series Coupé’s overall weight is distributed evenly between the two axles. The result is excellent handling and outstanding agility for maximum enjoyment on every bend.
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
on the BMW 1 Series Coupé.
For greater safety and for greater driving pleasure: Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), an electronic chassis control system, is a standard feature on the BMW 1 Series Coupé. It constantly monitors the behaviour of the chassis and wheels. When it detects the threat of traction loss, it reduces drive power and applies precisely measured braking pressure to individual wheels. Skidding is prevented before it can start, as within milliseconds, the BMW 1 Series Coupé is stabilised. At the touch of a button, Dynamic Traction Control can also be activated for extra traction and more surefooted progress on difficult surfaces.
